A Holiday Outing With The Austin SHIFT Team

In Austin, there may be a lack of snow or chestnuts to roast over open fires, but one thing we have in abundance is holiday spirit. This year, for a holiday outing, the Austin office took a little time to enjoy some of the things that make this city great and celebrate the team and the accomplishments over the past year.

It’s no secret that Austin is home to some of the best restaurants in the country. From delicious barbecue to Tex Mex to internationally influenced staples, Austinites are spoiled for choice when it comes to finding the best place to sit down and enjoy a bite to eat. Thankfully, the team in the Austin office is no stranger to the top restaurants and after lengthy deliberation, the office finally settled on one of the top spots; Via 313. Via 313 is known for their “Detroit style” pizza and while there are certainly strong opinions on what style, region and ingredients make for the best kind of pizza, there is no denying that this Austin favorite makes a delicious place to gather with coworkers and enjoy a slice or four.

Meeting at Via 313 set the bar for the rest of the outing as there aren’t many ways to top fresh pizza for breakfast. Luckily, this wasn’t the first outing the Austin office has planned and the next activity on the list provided the perfect outlet for a team of PR pros to get their creative juices flowing. The spot we visited is simply, and appropriately, called “Craft” and upon walking in the door you instantly realize that this place takes crafting to an entirely new level. Shelves upon shelves of paint, markers, paper and other materials greet visitors upon arrival. Sitting at one of the large tables, we learned that we would be making Christmas cards (which was appropriate given the time of year) using stamps, paper and embossing powder. Some of us were a little more proficient with the materials than others, but our time at Craft was a great opportunity to see some of the other creative talents that the team may not be able to regularly showcase. Regardless of skill level, there is no denying that after a couple hours everyone had some beautiful homemade Christmas cards to give to friends and family.

After a long day of eating pizza and crafting cards, it was time to head to the third and final spot of the outing for some afternoon drinks and games at Austin Beer Garden Brewery (or as the locals call it, ABGB). ABGB provided the perfect spot to end the day with a mellow atmosphere that was perfect for reminiscing about the day and discussing holiday plans, traditions and getting to know a little more about each other. We were able to relax, have a drink and end the day appreciating the work the team put into planning the holiday outing.

The holidays are a great time of year but can be stressful. Having a company that, not only provides time to relax and enjoy the company of coworkers, but actively encourages it, can lead to a greater passion for the work we are doing. This balance between work and fun creates a level of energy can be felt through the work we do and the results we deliver. Thanks to the holiday outing, the Austin office has strengthened personal and professional bonds which have the team excited to work together and tackle whatever 2019 brings!
