SHIFTers Give Thanks

Thankful

Let’s face it: 2017 has been a doozy. After the hurricanes, political upheaval and Friday Night Lights being taken off Netflix (Say it ain’t so, coach!), many are ready to turn their calendars to 2018 and start fresh. However, now that we’re reaching the end of the year, ‘tis the season to focus on all the wonderful things that have happened over the past 12 months and give thanks.

It’s been a great year at SHIFT Communications – from announcing our new Boston headquarters to winning 10 Bell Ringer Awards from the Publicity Club of New England – we have A LOT to be thankful for. With that in mind, and in honor of Thanksgiving, I asked several SHIFTers to share what they were most thankful for, either at work or in their personal lives. Here’s what they had to say:

“I am thankful for the collaborative mindset of my team because it elevates every pitch, brainstorm or activation to new heights. 11 creative brains working in tandem are better than one!”  – Britt Joyal, Senior Account Executive, Boston

“I am thankful for colleagues that are in the trenches with you, showing that we are in this together. It not only makes servicing the client more enjoyable, but also has a direct correlation to the results on the account.” – Kat Stern, Account Manager, New York

“I’m thankful for my amazing team. They’re smart, inspiring and fun to work alongside day in and day out.”  – Liz Iannotti, Account Manager, Boston

“I’m especially grateful for my fellow female colleagues this year who have cheered me on, encouraging me to take risks within my career and inspiring me to do great work for our clients.” – Sara LaFauci, Senior Account Executive, Boston

“This year I’ve been lucky enough to travel to new cities (Palm Beach, Chicago, Charlotte, NC) for wedding celebrations and to visit friends who have relocated – knocking off some bucket list places for sure!” – Cassandra Faro, Account Executive, Boston

“I’m thankful for media who send along the links to the coverage as soon as it goes live.” – Ali Parisi, Account Executive, Boston

“As a PR pro, I’m thankful to work in an industry that’s constantly evolving and always on the verge of what’s next. Every day is different, challenging and energizing and it requires me to always keep thinking and stay smart.  – Paige Kenny, Senior Account Executive, San Francisco

“I’m thankful for SHIFT’s flex hours, which make it possible for me to spend time with my daughter at the end of each day.” – Jen Toole, Account Director, Boston

“As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more thankful for me and my family’s health. I often parent my (active and outdoorsy) parents and remind them to apply sunscreen, I encourage everyone to get annual skin checks with a dermatologist and to take full advantage of all the medical benefits they have available to them. Your health is important, and taking care of yourself should be priority #1 in 2018.” – Maria Gallagher, Account Manager, Boston

“This year, I’m thankful that I was able to travel to Buenos Aires and reconnect with my host family. I came back to work feeling refreshed and ready to go!” – Eliot Marcus, Senior Account Executive, Boston

Although PR can be a high-stress and often thankless job, it can also be truly rewarding with many things to be thankful for. So, while you’re spending time with family and friends over the coming days, be sure to reflect on all the happy moments from the past year.

What are YOU thankful for this year? Make sure to share in the comments section below!
