Consumers are inundated with ads all day long, in almost every facet of their lives. They’re smart. They know when you’re trying to sell them something. Here’s another secret – if they aren’t interested in buying, they’re not going to engage with you.

NEWS FLASH, brands: It’s not about you. It’s always about the consumer.

Your blog post may not look like a traditional advertisement you see on the side of a bus or next to an article online, but to consumers it’s all the same.

Next time you write a piece of content, think about it and read it like a consumer: Why am I interested in this? What value does this blog post give me? Why would I want to keep reading?

Does your content need an overhaul? If you couldn’t answer any of the above questions, the answer is yes. Stop trying to sell something. Stop trying to get a lead. Find out what problem consumers have and solve it. Show them how you are a valued resource and can be trusted. Once you’ve established yourself as a credible source, next time they have a problem, they’ll come to you for a solution.
