SHIFT Communications Named Agency of the Year
Holmes Group Recognizes SHIFT for Rapid Growth, ESOP and Client Wins

IMG_3715BOSTON, MA—(May 6, 2013) – On the heels of celebrating its 10th Anniversary, SHIFT Communications (www.shiftcomm.com) is proud to announce that it has been named Small Agency of the Year by The Holmes Group. The Holmes Report selects its Agency of the Year awards based on several criteria, including growth and financial performance, awards and recognition, industry word-of-mouth, workplace environment, and interviews with clients.

In recognizing SHIFT for this honor, The Holmes Group had this to say about the award-winning digital Agency:

“After winning Digital Agency of the Year in 2012, SHIFT continued its impressive upward trajectory over the past 12 months, growing around 20 percent to almost $15m, a rate that suggests it will soon outgrow this category. Just as importantly, the firm continued to evolve an offering that blends earned, paid and owned media, via an industry-leading approach to content and analytics. Significantly, a strong new business haul reflected the firm’s expansion beyond its technology heartland, illustrated by such new clients as McDonald’s, Toyota and Tyson Foods, along with eye-catching work for Rethink Robotics and Zoosk. There were some high-profile creative and digital hires and, notably, the firm became one of a handful to implement an employee stock ownership plan.”

In 2012, SHIFT implemented its ‘Earned Media Hub’ strategy, seeking to push the boundaries of the industry from one that was focused solely on media relations to one that welcomes and integrates a broader marketing communications strategy. Additionally, in an effort to cultivate an environment of inclusion wherein employees think like owners, 2012 saw the launch of SHIFT’s employee stock ownership plan (ESOP). The ESOP has drawn praise from current employees, candidates and recruiters that partner with SHIFT to identify top talent and serves as a reminder to employees and recruits, alike, that SHIFT is deeply committed to its people.

“On the one hand, this validation is gratifying on so many levels. For trying to offer superior client service; showing the industry what it’s like to put employees ahead of profits; being among the first to develop an integrated model for Earned/Owned/Paid programs; for the late nights and umpteen trips to the airport, said Agency CEO Todd Defren. “But on the other hand, it simply means the bar has been raised to offer even better service; to work even harder on our culture; to be even more innovative and to set new standards in our marketing approaches. It’s not just a victory. It’s an invitation to accept even bigger challenges. And we’re game!”

SHIFT celebrated this achievement at The Holmes Group SABRE Awards Dinner in New York on Tuesday, May 7th, where Agency clients vied as finalists for the SABRE Gold Awards in both the Technology: Hardware and Medical Technology categories. SHIFT also counted a Silver SABRE win for its Public Relations Management Program, ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Program), in the Employee Program Category. To read the full report, click here.
